Giorgio Scolari was born in Casalbuttano (Cremona) on January 5th, 1952. He lives and work in Via Virgilio 1 in Cremona. He attended the International School of Violinmaking in Cremona where he studied under Master Pietro Sgarabotto and Gio Batta Morassi, and recieved his diploma in 1970. From 1970 to 1976 he worked out of the workshop of Morassi in Via Mantova, and later opened his own workshop in Via Trecchi 8. Giorgio currently works together with his brother Daniele in a new workshop situated in Via Virgilio 1. He continually searches out new forms and ways to improve sound quality, and studies to enrich his understanding of wood technology, chemistry, varnish, and the physical-acoustic phenomenon of instruments.

Since 1974 he has taught violinmaking at the School, and describes his students as attentive and conscientious. He also serves as vice president of the School. He has studied organ, piano and composition, and has an intense schedule as a director of several choral groups.

His production is inspired by the great Cremonese masters of the past; he uses models by Amati, Stradivari and Guarneri, as well as his own personal models. Every instrument he makes is the object of carful study. His varnish, produced in his workshop, is brillant, soft, and trasparent. He also performs expert repairs on all stringed instruments.

He has held various professional posts: Coordinator of Professional Courses in the State/Regional Project, internship Coordinator for the violinmaking workshops of Cremona (C.F.P), President – Violin Making Group Cremona Province of the Federation of Artisans, President of the Consortium of Violinmaking “Antonio Stradivari” Cremona.
